Institutional reactions to drug addiction aim at demand reduction (prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation), supply reduction and harm reduction. Data on actions taken in each area come from statistics of institutions responding to the problem of drugs and drug addiction as well as conducted research. Major courses of action and priorities are set out in the National Programme for Counteracting Drug Addiction. Under the programme data are collected from over 50 central institutions, 16 Marshal Offices and approx. 80% of Polish communes. An annual study allows for following trends in drug prevention actions, determining a rise or fall in implementation costs and estimating the population of beneficiaries. Data are used at the provincial level to produce reports by Provincial Experts. The analysis results provide recommendations serving to shape antidrug policies both at national and provincial levels.
