The meeting was attended by 19 representatives of 12 harm reduction facilities, which included needle and syringe exchange programmes and outreach programmes. The staff of the National Bureau for Drug Prevention presented new websites of the National Bureau and the Information Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction along with the 2010 Polish-French survey of low threshold programmes. The National Programme for Counteracting Drug Addiction along with legislative changes were discussed. The meeting featured presentations of epidemiological data on drugs and drug addiction. The representative of the National Institute of Public Health-National Institute of Hygiene presented the results of the prevalence study of infectious diseases (HCV, HBV, HIV) among injecting drug users in the cities of Gdansk and Krakow. Moreover, two presentations of harm reduction programmes were made:
- outreach programme of the Sopot-based “Czyste dźwięki” Society,
- programme of the Harm Reduction Centre – “Monar”/KTPU Addiction Prevention and Therapy Counselling Clinic in Krakow.
An update on legal highs was also delivered, including the history of the problem and new legislative solutions. After the presentation a discussion took place on drug scene developments in different regions.
The next 7th meeting will be held in the coming spring. There will be workshops on new ways of harm reduction programmes. Moreover, there will be a presentation of the initial results of the survey of harm reduction programmes.
