The aim of the meeting was to discuss cooperation principles and the action plan of the Polish presidency in the European Union in the second half of this year. Moreover, the key topics of the meeting included drug monitoring issues and preventing psychoactive substances, particularly legal highs. During the meeting, the Polish side showed the results of epidemiological research, analyses and preventive actions taken in response to legal highs. The agenda of the Polish presidency was also presented. The EMCDDA staff members presented the principles of Early Warning System on New Synthetic Drugs and European anti-legal highs legislative solutions.
Mr Wolfgang Götz, EMCDDA Director, stressed that supporting Member States is an important duty of the EMCDDA; therefore it is vital to receive feedback on the EMCDDA’s performance from the other EU Member States. Mr Götz also pointed to a fruitful cooperation in recent years with the Polish REITOX Focal Point, Polish experts, scientists and the network of Provincial Experts on drugs and drug addiction.
